The consequences of American sanctions are increasingly visible

That American sanctions against officials and other persons in Bosnia and Herzegovina are gaining momentum is indicated by the fact that banks in Bosnia and Herzegovina have begun to block the accounts of persons who are owners of companies and organizations that are on OFAC’s list.

Bankers’ fear of the consequences of sanctions

BiH bankers have announced that they will send a letter to OFAC in order to know how to deal with the accounts of sancioned persons.

What followed was the blocking of the accounts of those persons and companies under their control, and this was confirmed by Gorica Dodik through the social network “X”, announcing that her foundation’s account had been closed.
For now, we do not have information on whether the accounts of their companies and which ones have been closed.

The impact of official sanctions on citizens

Citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina also feel the consequences of sanctions against officials who do not discharge their functions and in this way block funds from investment funds and prevent the flow of investments into Bosnia and Herzegovina.

An example from Serbia is the introduction of sanctions against Aleksandar Vulin, after which he left the position of director of the BIA, which was done for the reason that the BIA would not have difficulties in working with other regional and international agencies, and this cooperation greatly improves the efficiency of the BIA and others security agencies in Serbia in the fight against crime. Jeopardizing cooperation with other agencies would seriously threaten the security situation in Serbia, and the act of leaving the post of BIA director represents a responsible and patriotic move by Aleksandar Vulin.

However, numerous projects have been halted and threatened in Bosnia and Herzegovina because the holders of the institutions are under sanctions. All projects planned for Bosnia and Herzegovina due to the officials who can be the only signatories of those projects have been postponed because those persons are on the OFAC sanction list.

While the projects stand still, office holders convince the citizens that the sanctions are ridiculous, some glorify their arrival on the black list, some place themselves in the role of victims, while the only victims of irresponsibility are the citizens.
